For manual (hands on) chiropractic adjusting of the cervical spine, Dr. Hunter Greenwood prefers adjusting patients in a sitting position rather than laying down to avoid twisting the neck.
The patient sits upright in a chair and looks straight forward while Dr. Greenwood gently bends their neck and adjusts it forward. This technique allows a safe and effective adjustment of the cervical spine while using less force, which is easier on his patients.
Dr. Greenwood may also utilize naturopathic stretching to release muscle tension and help the cervical vertebra stay in their proper position.
The nerves in your neck extend up into the cranial area and down your arm and into your hands. If the vertebra in your neck move out of place they can impinge on these nerves. This will keep your neck from moving properly and cause pain. You may experience headaches or migraines. Your arm and hands can feel weak, numb, or tingle.
Chiropractic care restores the vertebra to their proper position, relieving the pressure on the nerves and resolving the problem causing the pain.
Sitting manual cervical adjustments are also helpful in treating frozen shoulder syndrome (adhesive capsulitis), a condition in which your shoulder becomes stiff and painful.
